Thirty years ago today, New Zealand became the first country to declare itself a Nuclear-Free Zone.

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of New Zealand’s nuclear free legislation. Across the country, celebrations are taking place to celebrate this momentous achievement. Dr. Kate Dewes, international disarmament expert and representative of the NZ government for the UN study on disarmament and nonproliferation education, actively campaigned in the anti-nuclear movement for more than 40 years.
